Anyone that knows me knows I'm slightly addicted to one particular social media platform... Instagram! Since signing up I've discovered so many inspiring people and connected with some wonderful creatives that I have admired for a long time. So for today's post I thought I'd feature a few accounts that feature two of my favourite things – craft and pets!
This year I've been working from home for the majority of the week and I'm so happy that I've had my own companion to keep me company and get me out of the house for walks - our rescue dog George. I think he deserves a lot more space on my instagram feed (he's #georgethepigdog!)
Have a scroll though some of my favourite instagrammers below – I hope you'll find some new people to follow!
Harriet Gray is an illustrator whose work focuses on animals such as cats, dogs, sloths and alpacas! Her intricate illustrations adorn temporary tattoos, cards, tape, nail transfers, phone cases, totes and most recently clothing and enamel pins. Harriet lives in Winchester with her boyfriend and their two cats Meeko (#meekothecabbage) and Yoshi (#kingcatyoshi). Harriet just launced a shiny new website which is definitely worth a look!
OH NO RACHIO
Rachel Basinger is a designer-maker based in Southampton, where she lives with her boyfriend and cats Ruben (#rubenthepersian) and Luna (#littlelunababycat). Rachel's work is always refreshingly positive – Hand lettering and geometric patterns often adorn ceramics, cards, totes and stationery. Succulents are Rachel's other babies - you'll find lots of them on her instagram feed! Follow Rachel on Periscope if you're interested in the behind-the-scenes of running a small business or check out her blog for tips and fun and useful DIYs!
Toni Owers' instagram feed is always a joy to look at – full of pretty pastels, her super-cute illustrations and of course her pugs Lola and Doug! Toni works from her home studio in Sheffield, surrounded by Polly Pockets and kept company by her furry friends. Who doesn't love pugs?!
Claire is a crafter from Cambridge who hosts exciting craft parties and shares DIY posts on her website, all whilst working full time as a PA. Claire's furry companion is the squishy faced Tammy (#tammythepersian) who is representing the older pets at the grand old age of 11 – go Tammy! George sends a paw-bump for the old guys!
Layla Amber Rous is a jewellery designer that I think I first discovered at a Crafty Fox Market a few years ago. Her beautiful laser cut birch wood pieces must be very much inspired by the nature she encounters around her home on the picturesque Suffolk coast. Earlier this year Layla welcomed somebody new to the family – a sausage dog called Ted (#tedtheminidachshund) and I'm a little bit in love with him!
Kim Lawler is a web designer and jewellery designer based in Yorkshire, where she lives with her other half, two cats called Bramble and Pumpkin and a puppy-eyed golden retriever named Scout. Kim is so good at making websites she has made herself THREE – Finest Imaginary where you can buy her awesome acrylic jewellery, Adventurish which is her new lifestyle blog and Kim Lawler Creative where you can read up on some super helpful business tips. Scout stole my heart in particular with her dedicated hashtag #scoutcarriesthings.
Jo Want is the lovely lady behind happy jewellery brand Hello Sunshine. Her cats Toby Cat and Princess Pegs heavily inspire her work and you will find them in her online shop in the shape of clocks, necklaces and earrings! Jo has also provided the raffle prizes for this month's Lucky Dip Club box which we start packing tomorrow – some of you lucky people might be the owner of some Sunshine next week!
Ariele was one of the first people I followed on instagram and I've been obsessed with her feed ever since. She's a woodworker from Brooklyn, New York who creates the most stunning pieces using mostly reclaimed wood from local Brownstone buildings. Ariele has a very pretty cat named Mr C who pops up once in a while but the real star of the show is Mazie – Ariele's rescue dog who is clearly her best friend and very faithful studio companion.
Hannah Frew is the mind behind Pup Tart - known for their hand-dyed, hand stitched, hand printed accessories and pet products. Their Pet Tipis just won an award at the Not on the Highstreet Make awards! Hannah's sidekick is the super cute Indy, who can often be seen hanging out with her famous pals @winnythecorgi and @brunotheminidachshund modelling their Pup Tart glitter bow ties.
I have to give a special mention to the Queen of Biscuits Nikki McWilliams as not only is she a crafter with a cat (#frankietheforestcat or @frankietheforestcat), her incredible biscuit-themed cushions have proved very popular with pets and owners alike! When I was looking through my instagram feed searching for photos I found SO many pets lounging on Tunnocks Tea Cakes and Custard Creams! Nikki is also the contributor for this month's Lucky Dip Club box – I can't wait to see what she has created!
Two more of my instagram faves just got ridiculously cute dogs too - Hollie Harris and Eleni Kalorkoti so I guess I'm going to be spending even more time scrolling through and looking at cute pets now!
This post is dedicated to my best mate and studio companion George.
